Bob Marley's LIfe

Bob Marley was born in Rhoden Hall, north of Jamaica in 1945. His mother was eighteen when she had him. After Bob moved to Trenchtown with his mother at the age of fifteen, he quit school to devote himself to his music. Further on in this blog I will inform you more on his music career and success he had during his life.

In 1966, Bob's mother moved away from her family and friends in Jamaica to live in the United States. She saved enough money and posted it over to him to get a plane ticket to join her. It was there that he met and fell in love with Rita Anderson. In February of that year, the couple married. In October, Bob moved back to Jamaica to continue his music career with his band mates in The Wailers.

Bob had ten children altogether. He had four with his wife, adopted four from Rita's previous marriage and also had two from his own previous marriage. None of his children had a career as successful as his but some have reached a milestone in theis own careers. Stephen Marley, Bob's second son, is a five-time Grammywinning producer, singer, song-writer and mutli instrumentalist. Other sons, Damian, Julian and Ziggy have all had Grammy-award winning albums in Jamaica.

In 1977, Bob Marley got a cancerous infection on his toe. He was treated in a hospital in Miami. He fought the disease for three long years. In April 1980, Bob was awarded Jamaica's Order Of Merit. This was the third highest honout a person could achieve for outstanding contribution to the country's culture.

Eventually, the battle proved too much for Bob to cope with. He died in the Miami hospital on Monday May 11th, 1981. Bob Marley was only 36 years old when he died and had so much more he wanted to share with the world through his music.
